Prepare to be disappointed. HiDPI on Windows is still a dumpster fire.

It's a hodge-podge, to be sure. I knew that already because of my schoolwork. I took a VB course last semester that used Windows Forms (yes, I know, I know) and wrote the assignments in a VM on the MBP. Scaling never worked right in Win Forms. Labels overlapped, text boxes scaled to unexpected sizes, and no compiled app looked like it did in the designer. After I turned in the first assignment, my instructor asked if I was taking drugs or something, because it looked like trash on his 1080p 100%-scaled display. I showed him what they looked like on my machine and his response was just "huh..."
I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.

Just updated over the weekend, and I'm more than satisfied. Dark Mode looks pretty good, except for the glaring contrast on web pages/emails/apps that don't yet support it.

I don't see horrible looking fonts, and the changes mentioned in font smoothing aren't all that visible. I am using standard-definition 1920x1200 24" monitors on a Mac Pro.

Overall, it seems like a solid upgrade.

It's still pretty bad, but at least there is some progress. Even if it's very little.

I’ve been able to avoid it so far. My T480 runs at its native 2560x1440.

14" notebook with a pixel density of 220dpi running at native resolution? I'd need a magnifying glass.

I run my work supplied 15” MacBook Pro at its native 2880x1800 (via SwitchResX). I need the max available desktop area.

Have you heard of external displays? The MBP can drive four 4K monitors.

For a while I was using a 28" 4K display at work. Hated it. While it worked well for native OS X stuff, DPI scaling issues made it kind of wonky when running Linux VMs. I now use a 42" 4K display at work and I'm a much happier camper since I can run the VMs at native resolution without text being microscopically small.

I'd have to push a 42" 4K display back farther on my desk, making the text tinier again.

27" 1440p is my sweet spot considering my eyes and uses. Just fine.

In other news: a 42" display is more desirable than a 28" display. Who'd have guessed?

You need some ultrafine in your life:

I think he's saying that a 27" display running in some sort of 2560x1440 equivalent, not that bigger pixels are his preference. But on Windows, it seems like they might be.

Ben gets it :)

If I even tried to use that 5K display I wouldn't be able to read anything unless my eyes were an inch from the screen (facetious but still). I'd love to use a 17K 15" screen, but this is real life and my eyes and software just don't let that happen. I'm fine with it. Sometimes you get the short end of the straw on some things.

Why go single pixel pixel when you can go quad pixel pixel.

When your OS doesn't scale cleanly.

Maybe it’s just personal preference, but I prefer 27”@1440p@100% to 28”@2160p@125%

1 each, I think. Since 2016 the "real" rMBPs have four TB3 ports each.

Ok. Still trying to figure out a 4th 1440p screen off my laptop. Currently 2 off the TB3 and the other via miniDP

Pure Magic.

In this case, "Pure Magic" = Intel JHL7540 TB3 Controllers

This still works to restore "anywhere" in Gatekeeper using Terminal

sudo spctl --master-enable

Then return to SysPrefs and voila
