Using an iPad Pro as a display has been something I’ve been doing since the release of the original iPad Pro. I had settled on Duet Display as the performance was excellent, in large part due to it’s direct USB to Lightning connection. Having said that, I've always wanted the freedom of a wireless solution.
In August of 2017 I backed a project on Kickstarter, Luna Display. Luna Display stated that it was "The only hardware solution that turns any iPad into a true, wireless second display". That was music to my ears! I immediately became a backer.
My Luna Display finally arrived this past week. I was not disappointed. Luna Display is absolutely glorious!
Luna Display brings the freedom of wireless while preserving the excellent performance of Duet Display. Available for Mini DisplayPort or USB-C, Luna Display leverages its proprietary LIQUID Technology to provide lag free performance at 60 FPS by tapping directly into the performance of a Macs GPU. All via Wi-Fi. If Wi-Fi is not available one can use a USB to Lightning cable. I tested a local to my MacBook Pro Wi-Fi network connection and it worked (although at this point, if you wanted to be connected to the Internet, you'd need to be connected via ethernet).
Luna Display supports both touch and Apple Pencil.
Here is my current setup:
