iPad Air stuck on Apple logo screen

Tue Dec 11, 2018 11:15 am

I have my sister's iPad Air (3 years old I think) that is currently stuck on the Apple logo screen. I did a search in this section of the forum for stuck apple logo and pulled up Forge's iPad incident. Currently the iPad is at my apartment charging (no charging indicator). Currently on the screen it shows connected to iTunes for a while, then reboot to Apple logo, then back to connected to iTunes, this is while I have it charged. I tried to update the iOS but iTunes said error 14. Anyone know of what I can do to get it to work, while saving the data (video, pictures)? If I can't save the data, is there a way to pull the data off, and wipe the device to get it starting again? Before I try to make an appointment with the bar, has anyone tried any of the programs out there to fix their device? If you need a detail step by step of what I tired I will post that.

Error 14 is related to a connectivity problem to the iPad. As for troubleshooting steps - have you tried using a different cable? (perhaps there isn't that much charge on the iPad, and not sure how you can validate if it's just stuck in the apple logo)

Have you tried hard power off (hold down both buttons) and leaving it for a couple of hours?

What about patiently, slowly, fishing out all the fluff from the charging port (personally I use cocktail sticks) as that can often resolve connection issues?

I saw a video a long time ago that recommended using a piece of hard plastic from those stupid consumer packaging and cut it into a crescent moon shape. That works great for us when trying to clean out lightning or 30-pin ports.

I haven't tried the original cable yet, that's the plan for tonight. I have tried holding the power button and the home button for 20 seconds, but it oddly powers back on (I think). I'll test this again to verify. I'll check the port too.

I tried again with the original cable, and it worked for about a few minutes. The iPad was in the middle of updating when it disconnected the connection from the pc. It is currently stuck at 50%ish of loading (Apple logo with bar underneath it). Not sure what I should do next, as I don't want to mess up the iPad anymore than currently.

So I had no luck trying to get the iPad working on my own. After chatting with Apple support the only thing new was that it was now showing that it wanted to be charged. Took to Apple care no dice there as their final solution was to do a restore. My sister will most likely send it to Drive Savers to see about recovering the data, and will most likely move on from there.

Sadly enough that was what I asked her and she had no idea when it was backed up. Tho I have had an external HD stopped working, and I'm not sure what the issue is as it may be a controller issue. RIP that backup.

That's too sad. I have the same issue on my iPad Pro and got it fixed by following this blog post. You have to boot the device into DFU mode and flash new iOS firmware.
