Update:
I installed 4GB of RAM in the system and I was able to find a copy of OS-X 10.11 (El Capitan) for $14. I did a fresh install and let the system update.
It's a totally different computer now. Fully functional. It's not slow at all, which surprised me. I was expecting it to hang up a lot, but it's pretty snappy. It's going to make a perfect term paper workstation. I appreciate you guys helping out!
