Are talking about dragging and dropping song files to the player instead of syncing? Or are you talking about dragging and dropping "other" files to move data?

If it the latter then you can "unlock" the Apple device so it can be recognized as a USB mass storage device. You dont ;ose any functionality and all it really does is lets you see the file structure of the device.

There are also third party SW out there that can do this too.

I have a different question about the Nano. Why does iTunes work better in OSX than in Windows?

'cause Mac, "It just works." 8)

/shrug.

I personally think anything on OSX works better than its PC counterpart, if there is one.

Because iTunes can get OS hooks written for it on OS X and in Windows it needs to comply with the Windows API.

Or at least, that's my guess. But I don't find it has too many problems on Windows (by which I mean, it hasn't ever had problems for me, except that annoying one in Vista64 where it loses write permissions onto its catalogue file and you need to restart).

Apple's Windows software is universally piggish and slow. Safari, QuickTime, iTunes...on the same hardware (a Mac Mini) they're all much slower in Boot Camp than in OS X. Not sure what the deal is, but I'm blissfully able to get around it by using the right OS.

The same reason Safari on OS X is better than Safari on Windows.

Likely. iTunes just has higher access to resources in OS X I guess.

Same here, although apparently starting with Photoshop CS4 things will be different.

Hey pete, is the 1GB the only reason you want to replace the Clip? If so I suggest you take a look here for some additional recommendations. I will also add the older Sansa E2xx (you can buy the lower capacity one for the cheap price and expand it with micro-SDHC cards) as well.
The Model M is not for the faint of heart. You either like them or hate them.

Well I lost it, or it was stolen from my gym bag but I can't prove it. The 1Gb wasn't bad, i changed out what I wanted every night anyhow. My biggest gripe was the randomness of the shuffle was AWFUL. I'm looking at the Sony walkman 8Gb, looks sexy.

The Sony's are good too, especially since they dumped their stupid proprietary program and stick with USB transfers a while back. As long as you don't need the fancy stuff like FLAC and OGG I would ok with the Sony's if you like the look and UI.

Go to a store and fondle everything you can get your hands on thats the way your going to make the most informed choice. The iPod touch is really like a palm pilot on steroids thats why I like mine so much.
