If you're a comic book fan, new or old, then you owe it to yourself to download ComicZeal. Up until now, I refused to pay money for an app. I'm glad to say that it was $3 well spent.
Heavy is good, heavy is reliable. If it doesn't work, you can always hit them with it.

Google Chrome is looking pretty good right now. It's still in the dev channel but it's firing along nicely!

I couldn't live without:

Perian
Caffeine
VLC

VLC is so much better that Quicktime. Although quicktime does seem a bit better in Snow Leopard.

Parallels 5.0

Fri Dec 18, 2009 12:13 am

If you have the need to run Windows and don't want to use bootcamp, Parallels 5.0 is a must have application. I have used 4.0 and I can say that 5.0 is as they claim 300% faster. You can set it up so you don't even know that Windows is there. I am currently using Internet Explorer and have Safari running Hulu at the same time and it is smooth. It is awesome. I am running it on the iMac in my sig.

I have heard conflicting opinions on Parallels 5. Is it better than VMWare Fusion 3? I do not think I want to mess with Boot Camp and Windows 7 (once I acquire a Mac first) since BC is missing drivers for W7.

Depending on your VM needs, VirtualBox is free and might be sufficient. Even their 3D support is coming along.

Dizik, that is great if you have an iPhone. How about just a Mac?

I use it mainly to run PlayOn so I can stream Hulu to my PS3. PlayOn tests your system to see if it meets the minimum requirements. VMWare Fusion 3 has a hard time getting anything above fair were the new Parallels 5.0 easily gets the max. VMware also does not keep the stream going at a study pace. Parallels has no problem and you can use your Mac while it is streaming.

The driver issue with Windows 7 and Boot Camp really isn't much of an issue. I have Windows 7 running with Boot Camp on my MacBook (late 2009) and it works fine. The only things that you have to mess with is the driver for the wireless and maybe the sound. If you are a Windows PC person going to a Mac you will have no problem getting it up and running.

An app I myself can't do without is F.lux, it does wonders for my eyes. Just don't turn it on for the first time at night, you'll see orange people! I never notice it these days, and miss it instantly when I view someone else's monitor at night.
I love the functionality of ClipMenu, and missed it when it stopped loading for some reason (I blame the cats of the house.)
ILoveStars is great when you're building smart playlists, I used it a ton this past Christmas when I was sorting out all my Christmas music into things I want to listen to, and things I could delete and not miss.
LittleSnitch. Goes without saying.
I go back and forth between iChat and Adium. I do like Adium, but I went back to iChat recently for some reason. I'm not sure why that reason was.
Twitteriffic2 > Twitteriffic. It takes a little getting used to, but worth not getting those stupid timeout messages all the time.
For my line of work, I like Transcribe! over ExpressScribe, although I may be in the minority there.
Evernote.
Transmission. Thou Shalt Use No Other Torrenter.
I love Minuteur for a stopwatch, but there may be other, better ones out there. I just didn't like Apimac Timer that much.
AppCleaner. It's so simple, doesn't run all the time like some other cleaner app I had, and lets me save files from being deleted if I wish to save them, when I'm deleting the associated app.
TextExpander. I haven't used this a ton, but I appreciate it when I do use it.
Get Lyrical is great. Absolutely wonderful. Saves a ton of time if you're into keeping lyrics on-hand. Hands free, or you can choose to import lyrics on a by-song basis if you like.

I 1000% agree! I just discovered and installed f.lux on all my computer systems ( d/l it from http://stereopsis.com/flux/ ), definitely an ingenious software to have!

Coming from a Mac user I assume? Most Mac folk prefer Transmission over the more preffered µTorrent. But there are so many others to choose from:

uTorrent - http://www.utorrent.com/downloads/linux
Deluge - http://deluge-torrent.org/
rtorrent (libTorrent) - http://libtorrent.rakshasa.no/
Transmission - http://www.transmissionbt.com/
KTorrent - http://ktorrent.org/
qBittorrent - http://www.qbittorrent.org/
btgdaemon - http://btg.berlios.de/manpages/btgdaemon.man.html
btpd - https://github.com/btpd/btpd/wiki
Enhanced CTorrent - http://www.rahul.net/dholmes/ctorrent/
leechcraft - http://leechcraft.org/

crazy times!

Retina DisplayMenu if you've got a Retina MacBook Pro, and want to push it beyond the "1920x1200" mode. It can go to 3840x2400 (downscaled to 2880x1800), but that's kinda pointless.
