Nice case for Retro PC

Fri Mar 23, 2018 11:05 am

Hi guys!

After reading some threads here, I got the bug to build a retro PC, but I have a limited desk space. I was looking at the Cryorig Taku (because that thing is gorgeous, even though it's quite expensive) due to the fact that it's a mini ITX case with all the blows and whistles I would need (and repurpose if I get bored of that PC altogether). The problem I have is that I don't have enough desk space (probably 47 1/4 " long) because I have two monitors and my current PC is actually on the floor (on stilts). Would you know of any mini ITX case that would have a similar form factor as the Taku that is capable of being placed vertically?

Thanks!

While I'm looking to build a retro PC, I'm probably not going to have a Retro look on it. Problem with the Fractal case is that it's a bit too dark for my liking

The Fractal Node 202 is a great case (make sure you get a SFX PSU though!)

I'm confused though. You want a case for a retro (read: old) PC, or you want a retro-looking case for a new PC?

Here's my retro PC (shameless plug). Or you can find similar retail cases

Here are some other DIY retro ideas
Main: i5-3570K, ASRock Z77 Pro4-M, MSI RX480 8G, 500GB Crucial BX100, 2 TB Samsung EcoGreen F4, 16GB 1600MHz G.Skill @1.25V, EVGA 550-G2, Silverstone PS07B
HTPC: A8-5600K, MSI FM2-A75IA-E53, 4TB Seagate SSHD, 8GB 1866MHz G.Skill, Crosley D-25 Case Mod

Yeah I guess I'm confused by what you mean by retro. Those are some sleek cases you've linked though.

Is this for retro gaming perhaps? For a really old mITX mobo you have around?

I'm looking for a case for a retro PC, not a retro-looking case :) I want it to serve old games, but I don't want it to look that old...

some of those cases look great! I'm thinking I'll go with the Fractal as it's the best compromise for space/looks... I was looking at the deal that included a PSU with it

And also I have to say that your reuse of that Crossley radio looks amazing!

just brew it!

Thanks for clarifying. "Retro PC" could be interpreted a lot of different ways; for example: http://www.extremetech.com/computing/25 ... -ever-seen

Granted that was a mod (not an off-the-shelf case), but I think you get my drift.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

I did not see that thread when it was new. Your retro PC was really well done!
