Cooler Master Elite V3 500W?

Mon Aug 12, 2019 8:06 pm

I can't seem to find any specific reviews for the PSU. I don't know if I can assume that the reviews for the V2 500W version applies to the V3.

The last Cooler Master PSU I owned worked well enough, but seemed awfully lightweight for the rated wattage. I suspect that if I had pushed it close to its rated maximum output it might have released the magic smoke.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

With the exception of a couple of Silverstone SFX and SFX-L power supplies, I have adopted a strategy of buying a SeaSonic 80+Pt model when Newegg puts it on super-sale and keeping the power supply on-hand for when I need a new PSU. Since switching to SeaSonic instead of Corsair, Thermaltake and Antec PSUs, I haven't needed to replace any failed ones, either.

My current favorites are the Focus+ line, which aren't as deep as many premium power supplies.

I bought 2 CM 550w PSU's back in 2009 for 2 AMD builds. Both work to this day, but one had to have it's fan replaced a few months back. I've been surprised by how well they've worked over the years. Personally I'm not touching anything that lacks a seasonic badge. I've went though 4 Corsair HX850's in as many years so I'm avoiding them like the plague for commissioned builds

In this range, I go EVGA for budget models, and Seasonic 80+Gold for long-term.

The EVGA low-end models are unremarkable but reasonably done on the less expensive end. However, if it's my own system, Seasonic or the Superflower-made EVGA SuperNova gold/platinum models are the only options. I've had my Seasonic Platinum for five years now, and it displaced a Seasonic Gold I handed down to my wife's system; that one is probably eight years old. Both have been rock solid.
