windowless, unbranded, inexpensive case

Fri Sep 06, 2019 5:04 am

Any suggestions?
The last time I bought a case was over 10 years ago (it is beige, which I love so much more than black). I have come to terms with black now. I reluctantly accept it.

I want a mid-tower case with
3x 5.25" (or more)
4x 3.5" (or more)

Anything else is a bonus. Beige or white is still preferred but black is fine too.

* I don't want to see the case company's branding.
* I despise case windows.
* I don't want any gloss surfaces or metallic trim (such as silver-painted plastic)

I don't even care if it has no front USB ports or front audio ports. I just want an unbranded, unwindowed, inexpensive case that doesn't cut me up when working on it. Any suggestions?

5¼" drive bays are an endangered species.
$56 would get you an open-box Rosewill Challenger.
$95 would buy a better Phanteks PH-ES614PC_BK.

Mid-towers with that many bays weren't common even back in the day; you'd have a better selection if you were willing to go larger.

TBH your best bet may be to check out some local thrift stores and garage sales for old PCs. Better chance of getting something beige that way. Just recycle the innards and reuse the case.

Bitfenix Comrade could be what you're looking for. It has one less 3.5" bay, though. But it comes in white too.

Branding? I have a smaller Bitfenix Nova and it seems to be very similarly constructed. The only branding was a logo made of thin plastic. It just fell off and I didn't glue it back.

I've accepted that new desktop cases will be black, and TBH I'm fine with black. Don't like side windows.

For home server builds I am still reusing my pair of old metallic green Chieftec full towers, which are probably creeping up on 20 years old at this point.

Fractal makes cases in white, available without windows. Front door is glossy white, side panels are matte . For example, Newegg has this one. It's not beige, but it's tasteful, and neither black nor blinged out.

I have an R5, so the previous generation, and it's a fantastic desktop case, and I'd definitely recommend them.

They are? Also in 5.3+" wide cases? That's a shame.

Corsair Carbide 200R. Cover unused fan-mesh areas with black duct tape from the inside. Pop off the front logo with a flathead screwdriver. Done.
