Not familiar with benchmarks on other games, but look at those.

Then check out this HD4850:

actually, hold on

Edited out wrong link...

The GTS250
and 4870 are both in the same price range.

This is probably the best in that range: HD 4970

That 4870 is quite a bit better. Kind of silly to be a fanboy when you get some much more performance for the same cost. 1-2 years from now the better card could make quite a difference.

But yeah, your 7800GT will be fine if you don't upgrade.

i feel comfortable with Nvidia cuz ive used them since 2000 and theyr drivers are better and easier to use and im worried about playing games like doom 3 and battlefield 2 and C&C 3 and starcraft 2/Diablo 3/sims 3

I would hands-down buy the 4870... the 250GTS is quite a bit slower.

The 4870 is more comparable to the GTX 260: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814143140

Regardless, even the $70 ATI card I mentioned will eat your 7800GT alive.

Here are some benchmarks from when the 4870 came out. Notice how well it does, especially compared to, say, the 9800GTX, which is miles ahead of a 7800GT:
