Christ, I remember SidePort, that wasn't THAT long ago lol. I have a couple of customer's who are sporting machines with that chipset and probably a sideport
.
Yes, I agree.... AMD had me seriously pissed after my touting "Wait for Bulldozer!!!! ITS GOING TO BE AWESOME!" Yeah, I felt like an idiot once it finally released. I ended up with a Sandybridge system in the end after all, and I'm glad because when I got my Sandy system it was prime time for pricing.
It doesn't feel like AMD is going crazy overboard trying to do the salesmen thing with Carrizo, they just seem eager to share the specs and accomplishments of the design which by all means on paper seem decently impressive. Mostly because they are breaking away from norms like a typical South-bridge, and putting GCN cores on die. You have to remember AMD pushed things that Intel would have been completely happy with keeping the same for another 5 years and charging the same for. AMD pushed 64bit, they created the first TRUE multi-core CPU that didn't run through the north-bridge and used an interconnect (remember Intel's first dual cores... ouch). Even if AMD makes it and Intel steals it, AMD is in every way shape and form been great for the enthusiast PC market if for nothing else than to push Intel to bring stuff to market.
So by that same logic... even if AMDs Carrizo is successful and decent, Intel may copy of it and we as consumers will benefit. Sad to think about a peon, relatively, like AMD showing a big gorilla like Intel a few new tricks.
