Hexus got its hands on a 7900X that is not an Intel review sample and, being free from any NDAs, posted a review.

Interesting points:
1. As predicted this chip greatly shrinks the gulf between old HEDT chips and parts like the 7700K. In single-threaded workloads it is almost as fast as the 7700K while of course delivering on multi-threaded workloads too. It takes away the compromises that have existed with these parts in the past.

2. The platform is still rough around the edges (pre-release Mobo too). In most benchmarks you'll see big performance gains but there are some outliers with regressions. These appear to be more the exception than the rule.

3. Overclocking? Yeah you could say that. All 10 cores at 4.7 GHz and 1.25V. Once again this is NOT a sample provided from Intel so it's not like they were cherry-picked.

Interesting power consumption results.

Bah!!! Give me the Ryzen 7 1700 instead as it has only a 65W TDP and doesn't need really fancy HSF/AIO coolers to keep it from catching fire. Not to mention I could build a really decent system for what the i9-7900X alone cost.

If the results in reviews are somewhat accurate then it is not good for news Intel shareholders. Threadripper and Epyc are going to leapfrog this platform in workloads where having tons of threads is king matter and be "cheaper" to make en mass. The power consumption results are more disheartening but I suspect it is because the "good" yields are going for Xeon market.

It is the 1.13Ghz Pentium III all over again.
