Ryzen 5 2400G good for video editing?

Thu Aug 23, 2018 7:37 am

Hey, everyone! Newbie here. I'm currently planning a new build, specifically for entry level gaming and basic video editing. Since the prices of GPUs are still up, I was wondering if I may get away with basic video editing using an iGPU (Ryzen 5 2400G)? RAM is going to be 16GB 2400Mhz.

And also, I joined up in the hopes of learning a thing or two from the other members here. Whenever I'm taking a break from this particular interest, I'm usually found at home, treating my Pomeranian to his dog bone and watching TV with my wife. Such a simple, yet, happy life. Cheers, everyone!

Greetings!

For the most part, CPU performance of a Ryzen 5 2400G is on par with that of a Ryzen 5 1400. For everyday tasks and even light gaming, the Ryzen 5 2400G all by itself is perfectly capable.

A question though. Do you not currently have a working GPU that you could bring with you into a new build while you wait for prices to go down? Even a GTX 750 (Maxwell 1) from 2014 is going to be faster at basically everything, compared to Vega 11. Especially when your RAM is only running at 2400MHz. The iGPU doesn't really start to shine until you pair it with 3200MHz memory. Also, don't forget that lots of video effects packages can support GPU compute, either CUDA or OpenCL.
I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.

Oh wow! Thanks, derFunkenstein! My budget only dictates that I may buy a 2400G for now, though I might consider a higher RAM frequency as well. Real thanks!

The GPU performance ought to be around what an R7 260/360 would give you, assuming you pair it with 3000+ RAM.

i had MD Ryzen 5 2400G… 3.9 GHz, quad core, 8 threads | 8GB DDR4 | 256 GB SSD and it was Pretty good for most Video editing software but for After Effects 16 GB is what I would recommend. And surely… you need an extra Hard Disk, external drive will also do..
Happy Editing!!
