For example, a 12C on TR4 would probably overlap (MB+CPU+RAM) with a 16C on AM4 and can be upgraded 1-2 years later.

But what concern would that be of AMDs?

Indeed, the cynic in me would suggest they'd like it - as they stand to be in a position to "have" to sell you a new motherboard and CPU a couple of years later if you buy a 16C AM4 now and then refresh/upgrade your hardware in ~2022.

Careful. I made similar promises about OG Ryzen and I ended up building one.

This is why the AMD fansquad should love me. I'm single handedly moving mountains so Lisa launches the 7nm 16 core parts this month!

People like to label me a fanboy all the time because I don't make excuses for "underdogs". I vote with my wallet and demand results. The day AMD announces a high-end CPU or GPU that beats the competition across the board, I'll be first in line to buy.

Sooooooo, what happened to the 12 and 16 core variants, mates?

Still looks good. 8C/16T competition on the desktop is wonderful. I really do wish AMD would stop using just Cinebench to show how awesome Ryzen is though. It's so dumb.

I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT A GUY NAMED ADORETV WHO LINKED TO A COMPLETELY HONEST RUSSIAN WEBSITE COULD POSSIBLY BE WRONG.

Having said that, I'm a man of my word: As promised I will order any legitimate 16-core RyZen 2 processors that are available on Amazon Prime this month.

I'm interested in the power figures. AMD quoted some pretty serious power savings. Intel better hurry up with 10nm Ice Lake S parts or the CFL/R parts are going to look like power hogs compared to AMD stuff later this year.

The power figures are nice but frankly given what a miracle 7nm is supposed to be, I'm not overly impressed even with the somewhat lower power consumption.
For a point of reference, AMD is claiming ~50 watts of active power consumption improvement over the 9900K. When Anand tested the much maligned RTX-2080 vs. Vega 64 (no process advantage for Nvidia) it pulled 55 watts less under load: https://www.anandtech.com/show/13346/th ... -review/16

Shucks, looks like it'll only be an 8c part. Still, I'm happy that AMD's finally bringing their AVX unit up to Intel (mainstream desktop) standards. I think this might be the chip that finally gets me off Ivy Bridge!
Like a good neighbor jackbomb is there.

For a few months at least. Ice Lake will intro AVX512 to the consumer desktop. (not that it's a huge advantage at this point)
