Intel Just Cancelled... Bankruptcy

Thu Jul 25, 2019 4:08 pm

Intel's panicked response to Ryzen 2 is to beat the revenue and profit expectations and to revise the rest of 2019 upward from its earlier projections:

Net Income down 17%
Earnings Per Share down 12%

Not horrific, but not exactly rosy, especially considering the effects of Zen 2 haven't hit yet. The sale of their modem division to Apple will likely make Q3 look better than it otherwise would. Q4 should be the first time we see a real impact.

It looks like Operation: Super Glue is working!

Intel is riding entirely on sheer momentum and OEM market. It is no thanks to their ubiquitous iGPUs on the overwhelming majority of desktop/desktop CPUs SKUs. AMD needs to be on par if they want to wrestle away mainstream marketshare. The picture doesn't look as rosy on the HPC and Enterprise fronts. Rome is very compelling option for the 1S/2S market with customers seeking an upgrade in the near-future.

For all the people whining that Intel's numbers are down a bit year over year, let's take a look at the competition (and no, I don't mean AMD):

Here's Samsung: Profits off 56%. Poor Intel not running a bunch of smartphones can't match that 56% profit crater:
https://www.zdnet.com/article/samsung-q ... -downturn/

But then there's TSMC which very very slightly beat its revenue estimates. GREAT NEWS... right?
Well, given that TSMC is supposed to be running on its miracle 7nm process, it's interesting to note that revenue share from 7nm has been dropping continuously since the beginning of the year while good ol' 16nm is the reason that TSMC was able to slightly beat its weakened expectations:

That’s a pretty myopic interpretation

I saw a headline that said "Intel boss out" and I thought the CEO had resigned. It turns out it was the politician, but still made me think of Chuckula.

No, it's dead on accurate and frankly you are once again showing that you are a biased d-bag koolaid drinker for thinking anything else. I've been way too magnanimous in putting up with your 8th grade level personal attacks for years, and I'm happy you literally just showed how your mouth is where your ass should be right before today.

You know why? Because for all the Adored TV Riefenstahl-propaganda that you like to use instead of having a brain, when AMD's executives don't want to end up in jail for fraud they agree with literally everything I just said.

Here are AMD's Q2 2019 Results: https://www.thestreet.com/investing/ear ... k-15038563

Ooh look AMD's earnings were "in line" with estimates must be a miraculously great quarter!
If you assume that a 70% drop in profits from the same quarter last year is "miraculous" ($116 million last year before the 7nm craze, $35 million now* )then sure.. you believe that.

Oh, but OMG 7nm we'll make all the money next quarter!
Sure they will:
AMD's third-quarter 2019 revenue guidance is $1.8 billion, plus or minus $50 million. That's below analysts' estimates of $1.94 billion.

Funny how Intel beat expectations (and no, those expectations did not include a 70% drop in profits), guided up for the rest of the year, and is shipping far far more 10nm silicon than AMD is on 7nm -- ignore the propaganda, numbers from AMD and even more importantly from TSMC who actually does all the real work don't lie. AMD is playing a very expensive game right now and is making a lot of headlines, but if Epyc is really so magical then 1. TSMC would only talk about "5G modems" in reference to how they were being delayed because its 7nm fab capacity was booked solid through 2020; and 2. AMD sure as hell wouldn't be tap dancing to 7nm propaganda while still failing to meet the already-way-too-low expectations that had been laid for it by favorable analysts who like to see their names in the trades.

* To put that in perspective, Intel's "bad" quarter was $4.2 Billion. In the 91 days of Q2 2019, it took Intel 18 hours and 12 minutes to make all the money that AMD did. So to say that AMD made as much as Intel did on one randomly selected Tuesday in Q2 is accurate if you massively round up in AMD's favor. And people think that Intel had a bad quarter while ramping up 10nm production?

Chuckula is a genuine artifact, perserved in situ from roughly the turn of the millenium. The period is also known as the Late Bubblicious Technologium era, when Cisco stock was day-traded by high school janitors and sub-GHz CPUs roamed the earth in an upright posture while wearing heavy exoskeletons. It's increasingly rare to find a CPU fanboy so perfectly preserved. They say if you hold him up to your ear, you can hear the gentle crooning of the Backstreet Boys.

Bruh, if you can said to me with a straight face that you knew the 7 nm would decline and be replaced by 16 nm a few quarters ago, I would say that you're full of ****. You're doing a victory lap on the trough of what is clearly some sort of historical sinusoidal trend, and you don't even have the self awareness to see how stupid that is. Are you really going to say to me that you expect the trend of 7 nm to keep declining and 16 nm to go up? TSMC is doomed, cancel 7 nm?!

You're the most tiresome neurotic I've come across, because for some reason you choose to be the incessant cheerleader for what has clearly been the winner in the semi space for a decade. You're punching down, and in comedian language, that's not amusing for anyone to read.
