Don't panic! We'll still cancel Icelake on schedule!

Thu Aug 01, 2019 8:57 am

We here at Intel shill-central just want to let everyone know those unsubstantiated rumors of Icelake launching are just part of a clever ruse to troll Apple!

Please ignore any articles that purport to show fully operational systems running benchmarks! We promise that Icelake is still on track for cancellation in time for the holiday season!

If my Icelake pre-order isn't cancelled on time, I'll be pissed.

Yeah. Have they announced anything other than low-power low-clock 4-core laptop chips? +18% IPC is a solid boost, but not so much if the chips have to be clocked 20% or more lower than prior.

For sure. I thought about reading an AMD CPU review because of it, but the urge has passed. Better now.

Is "Gorilla Glue Lake" the mobile or desktop part?

Desktop Ice Lake-S 10 nm CPUs are not coming in 2019. Most rumors have them arriving in the second half of 2020.

Intel is going to give us desktop Comet Lake-S (re-re-re-re-re-hashed Skylake on 14+++++ nm, rumored for first quarter 2020 release) before we get desktop Ice Lake-S.

Ice Lake-S 10nm desktop CPUs have reportedly been cancelled.
https://www.techpowerup.com/260130/inte ... -till-2022
Intel has reportedly scrapped plans to launch its 10 nm "Ice Lake" microarchitecture on the client desktop platform. The company will confine its 10 nm microarchitectures, "Ice Lake" and "Tiger Lake" to only the mobile platform, while the desktop platform will see derivatives of "Skylake" hold Intel's fort under the year 2022!

Edit: Intel says that 10nm on the desktop has been delayed until late 2021 (after 14nm Rocket Lake).

Granted, it's Geekbench, but stuff like this makes me laugh at how much things have changed since just a few short years ago: https://wccftech.com/intel-core-i9-1090 ... -core-cpu/
