Re: Upgrade Path for Aging Processor

I'm almost done with The Outer Worlds, but I've seen some pretty tempting deals from MicroCenter. I'll keep watching during the Christmas season deals and maybe pull the trigger at some point. My friends have talked about going to Quakecon next year (have skipped it the last 5 years) and that would give me a real need to upgrade.

Interestingly, I've noticed that The Outer Worlds actually does a pretty good job of utilizing all the CPU cores on my 1090T. I have no idea if they're being utilized efficiently, but the utilization definitely goes up to 100% for all 6 cores for a large portion of the time I am playing. I guess we are finally at the point where normal (Unreal Engine) games are well tuned for multi-core.

Newegg is clearing out older CPUs. Ryzen 7 2700 is down to $135 today (with code EMCDGDF22 ).

One of my family members is still using my old Sandy Bridge Core i7-2600K. If you're wanting a Ryzen 5 2600, those have been holding steady around $120 since the beginning of October.

I'd really like to build another PC soon, but I'm trying to wait for Ryzen 4000 (Vermeer = Zen3) CPUs due out toward the middle of this year.
