Intel is going to debut the processor in the middle of the year but the 50+ fantastic notebook designs won't be available until the holiday season?

Tiger Lake is the second iteration (+) of Intel's 10nm node, the first being Ice Lake (let us never speak of Cannon Lake again). It also represents a shift from Intel's Sunny Cove architecture with Gen11 graphics, to Willow Cove with Intel's Gen12 Xe graphics on board. In other words, Tiger Lake is a bit of an exciting product all around, or at least a promising one. ntel seems confident Tiger Lake will be a hit. Later on during the conference call, Swan addressed a question about volume, because as we saw with Cannon Lake (oops—now let's never speak of this again), 10nm chips have not exactly flooded the market.

"There is very strong demand for Tiger Lake. When you look at the impact that Tiger Lake reserves are having on the quarter, it's about the same level of impact that we had on Ice Lake in Q1 of 2019. And yet we have about double the number of units being reserved. I think it gives you an indication of just how much our performance was improving on 10-nanometer.

It sort of makes sense from a design-manufacturing-distribution pipeline perspective? Let's say "mid year" is actually July 1. From a manufacturer's standpoint back-to-school is already gone. You add final verification, ramping up production, accumulating the initial inventory and distribution. Seems like Oct/Nov just in time for the holidays shopping season, which technically begins before Thanksgiving.

But I still have to ask, where is my "Tiger Lake gen" desktop processor?
The Model M is not for the faint of heart. You either like them or hate them.

Intel Tiger King...er... Lake

Intel Core "Tiger Lake" mobile processor and pioneering "Lakefield" heterogenous x86 processor could debut around September or October, 2020, according to a leak from Lenovo.

"Tiger Lake" is still denoted as a 10 nm as it's a planar chip. Intel is developing it on a refined 10 nm+ silicon fabrication process, which apparently enables Intel to increase clock speeds without breaking the target power envelope. "Tiger Lake" sees the commercial debut of Intel's ambitious Xe graphics architecture as an iGPU solution.

"Lakefield," on the other hand, is a 5-core processor combining four "Tremont" low power x86-64 cores with a "Sunny Cove" high-powered core, in a setup rivaling Arm big.LITTLE, enabling the next generation of mobile computing form-factors, which Intel and its partners are still figuring out under Project Athena.

Good luck to them trying to beat Ryzen 4000 series with their "getting long in the tooth" 10nm process. I hope they prove me wrong though.

The 10mn+ process, in regards to scaling, is just alittle behind the 7mn process. It should be an ok match up from a process perspective. It will be up to architecture to see which chip is faster.
