Now with clock speed info:

Base clocks allegedly now 4 GHz and (a little) higher.

I want 10GHz. Even 6GHz would be a good start. Where's post-silicon?

Apparently that happened back in 2005, but I somehow missed it:

8-10GHz on 70nm? Nice.
Ah! The heady days of Pentium 3-4...

As for the second part, there was an (almost) working form of post-silicon in the Cray-3 and Cray-4.

And not just 70 nm —- EUV 70nm!

I wonder if there were engineers or physicists at Intel in 2000 who were saying “uh guys....” or if everybody really believed the marketing.

Intel marketing was clearly mad with power at the turn of the century. They used the paper tiger of Itanium to bluff everybody except ibm and amd to drop out of the 64 bit server market, for example.

It really did seem like intel was this unstoppable juggernaut. Oh how the mighty have stumbled!

Weaker than expected. No change in base clocks, tiny change in boost.

Hardly seems worth it...

At least MSRP is the same as their non-XT variants.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Yeah. If you were already about to pull the trigger on the non-T model it would be worth getting the XT instead (since the prices aren't any higher), but I definitely wouldn't use these as a reason to start a new build or to upgrade.

I'm going to wait for benchmarks.

If the all core boost has a major improvement then this is still worth it even if single core boost has a minor improvment.
Main machine: Core I7 -2600K @ 4.0Ghz / 16 gig ram / Radeon RX 580 8gb / 500gb toshiba ssd / 5tb hd
Old machine: Core 2 quad Q6600 @ 3ghz / 8 gig ram / Radeon 7870 / 240 gb PNY ssd / 1tb HD
