Intel targeted by hedge fund guy

Wed Dec 30, 2020 8:51 am

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-inte ... SKBN2931PS

Buried at the end is this nugget:

In June, it lost one of its veteran chip designers, Jim Keller, over a dispute on whether the company should outsource more of its production, sources said at the time.

Wasn’t the line at the time that he left for “personal reasons”?

Anyway, I don’t know if thirdpoint has the answer for Intel moving forward, but Intel’s current mess was both predictable and predicted years ago. Intel’s board and senior management have brought a once great American company into dire straits. They deserve the hurt coming their way.

Remember how much good Carl Icahn did for TWA?

Don’t blame the vulture for the corpse. Take away the vulture and the corpse doesn’t come back to life, it just sits there and stinks.

Fair point!

Wall Street was happy about Gelsinger coming back, but it sounds like not so happy that Intel plans to double down on manufacturing:

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/intel-gi ... 18064.html

I can't blame Wall Street -- Intel management has utterly torched their credibility. Big bold claims about 10nm, then crickets, then we find out its broken. Big bold claims about 7nm, consistent claims that everything is great and on schedule, then last July we hear that, oops, maybe not. It's almost as if Intel management has no idea what's going on inside the company.

I hope Gelsinger can fix what appears to be a seriously dysfunctional management. I hope Intel can catch up to TSMC.

But if they can't, then perhaps they could sell off their manufacturing assets to a lifestyle company in Cupertino.
