The FX 6350 is still a 125 watt cpu at the end of the day. Why compare that to a 8350. It's a hot cpu too! OP. Your much better off getting a 6300 @ 95w and overclock it. Less heat at higher clocks, and multitasks just fine. Secondly, its 20 dollars less than a 6350. Take that savings and invest in a 212 Evo.
Personally, I was going to go with a 8350, but its not worth it. Anything over 4.5g, you better jump on some water to cool that beast down. Then you better invest in a higher end motherboard with a better vrm, and heatsinks, to handle a power hungry 8350, if overclocking is your goal. At that cost, Intel is looking much better. An i5 and a mid-range board will serve you more justice. Power requirements would be much less.
The 6300 is a great cpu. I am using this with a 660 SC and can play most games on Ultra. It overclocks easy and stays cool. Add a 212 Evo and your set. Multitasking is great.Here are some prime testing screens below. I was using a 560Ti (1) gig at the time, and still played Far Cry 3 on Medium / Mostly High settings @ 60fps. That was just using the multiplier and bumping up the cpu core voltage. The cpu never went above 40C @ 4.4g on 1.35v prime testing 2 hours. Gaming around 32- 35C. Your much better off using the FSB to overclock. You will get better single core performance. I set up different profiles. My gaming profile is at 4.6g @ 1.4v.Temps never exceed 46 - 50C. Everyday profile is at 3.6g on 1.27v. AMD recommends not to exceed 62C on the cpu ,and 70C on the socket. I have headroom to push it more, but really no need. I plan on going Intel for my next gaming rig, but I will always run an AMD rig. The 6300 makes a great gaming cpu on a budget. Then use that savings for a better gpu.
1. Bios reads out socket temp.
2. AOD has (unless they changed it lately) always read a socket temp.
3. HWMonitor in the TMPINx's reads the socket temp.
4. HWMonitor in the "package" temp for the newer versions reads the core temp.
5.The program, " Core Temp" is very accurate on load. Idle temps not so much.
Suggest 70c ish socket temp and 60c ish "package" temps using HWMonitor.
