With SO-DIMMs, like in this situation it is possible, but even then, most vendors don't do it.

The Braswell mITX board I have on order only has two SO-DIMM slots. Of course, Braswell supports a maximum (and only on certain boards, most are 8GB which is Intel spec) 16GB.
