Heck, I'd be thrilled if their Linux drivers would just work stably with the major Linux desktop environments. You need to walk before you can run.

Well guys, now that Ryzen will be released on March 3rd and since there will be a 8C/16T CPU with a 65W rating, which will be suitable for use in a SFF case like the Milo 08B. This project would be a go if I could justify building a new system.

Anyone else wanting build a SFF system with a RyZen CPU?

Oh come on, you could fix that with a Dremel, couldn't ya?

I see that the RyZen CPU and AM4 motherboards are becoming sold out and they are not released yet. Even I was going to do this build I would have to wait until retailers restock first.

I also notice that the R7-1800X is sold out at several retailers. I didn't know that would be such a high demand for a $500 CPU. Personally I think the R7-1700 is a much better value at $329 and with a 65W TDP. Of course in my case If I was going to do this build I will have to wait until mITX boards appear and of course it would be prudent to wait on more reviews before purchasing anyway.

Ayyy, Biostar is a no-go. At least it's something mITX and X370, which is a good sign.

I'm still liking the plan I noted towards the beginning of the thread - R7 1700 (probably non-X) in an NCase M1. X or non doesn't matter much because I'll likely OC to 3.7~3.8 all-core anyway. Maybe the X's binning would be a touch better, but I'm going to guess that it's mostly just a clock/power tradeoff, and $70 for +100-200 MHz is meh.

How big is the minimum socket/cooler clearance for AM4?

Just watched the TR unboxing video and what jumped out to me was how the cooler holes were about as wide as the DIMMs. Intels 1151 is a bit smaller. A Noctua NH L9i is 95mm square and does not interfere with any DIMM.

Anyone have a reference? Can you get a low profile cooler with 120mm fan to fit in the CPU clearance area w/o interfering any DIMMs? Wonder if thats why mini-ITX is delayed. A lot less area to work with.

I updated my previous post with links to BioStar's micro-ATX motherboards. They were a bit slower than the larger manufacturers to update their web page. They made up for it by being the first to release an X370 board that is smaller than ATX and by offering more micro-ATX socket-AM4 motherboards than any other supplier has put forth so far. That gives us one X370 and ten B350 micro-ATX motherboards from which to choose in the first week, though Newegg has only three of them in their listing as of his morning.

Upshot: If you want to put a Ryzen in your NCASE M1, Biostar's the only game in town right now.

I think if those last two Biostar boards are going to fit at all, it's going to REQUIRE an SFX power supply to be mounted in the ATX bracket - NCASE only claims 195 mm of available GPU length with an ATX power supply.

More than 226x174 would involve compromising cooling, which I'm not going to do. Also, I'm serious about Biostar not being an option.

I'm in no hurry, and I'm sure there will be more options by the time I'm looking to buy.

I have a Node 304 which I'm looking to use for a similar build. I already have a Cryorig C7 which I'm thinking about getting one of those adapter kits for so I can use it with AM4, and then waiting for some non-Biostar ITX boards to show up hopefully with more than 2 SATA ports. The C7 is rated for 100W, so getting a 95W CPU might be pushing it, but an R7 1700 would probably be a good fit.

Usually I'm not big on the "new widget spotted!" stories, but I've been keeping an eye on this one and figured I'd post it in case anyone else is interested. Anyway, looks like Gigabyte is working on a B350 mini-itx board. There's no product page that I can find as of yet, but if I had to guess, I'd say it's probably an ITX version of their AB350 Gaming board.

New micro-ATX motherboards from MSI and Gigabyte have been announced. That gives us 16 boards from which to choose. Newegg still has just the same three boards in stock.

OK from reading the various reviews of the Ryzen 7 and 5 CPUs out there, it seems to me that the ones with the 65W TDP rating are bundled with the wrong HSF. shouldn't they be shipping with the Stealth cooler instead of the Spire? By the way, does anyone know the height of the Wraith Stealth HSF? Just wondering if it would fit in this case.

I'm gonna say no. For most builds, having more cooling than you need is NEVER a bad idea. Keeps things stable and quiet and what else do you need?

I don't know how difficult it is now days, but it was almost impossible to find a USB WiFi dongle that would work with Linux and work properly. Cards however were no trouble to find and get working.

One big concern you have with USB WiFi is that you can lose or misplace the dongle as well.

What I meant was I knew what you want but I can't imagine that many builders are concerned about SFF boxes with high end procs.

I've had decent results with cheap USB WiFi dongles from Edimax. However, if that's too small for you to keep track of, you could use an ethernet-connected wireless access point / media bridge, instead.

I can't be the only person that as soon he heard the rumours of an 8 core 65W TDP CPU thought it would be cool to stick it into a SFF case.
