using a shim with the I.C.E?

Thu Jan 08, 2004 2:08 am

This is for all you peoples with a Shuttle cube using the I.C.E cooling system.

Do you use the shim they provided? Will it give me better or worse cooling or no change?

The reason I ask is becsaue currently i'm not using one, and haven't been for about 2 months now. My temps are pretty high on my barton and I got to thinking that maybe the heatsink isn't sitting completly flat against the core.

But if it isn't going to help anything and possibly give me higher temps then i'm notgonna bother!

Any info would be great, thanks!

I would try it, as they would not include it for no reason. But it really comes down to the temps, if they bother you try it, if not just leave it the way it is.

Personally I've used it, but it's not necessary. I've heard that if you want to OC at all, don't use it. Otherwise it's more of a precaution to prevent overtightening...

Yeah, i've been running my 2500+ at 200x10 for about 2 months now, stable. The temps are in the 50C - 60C range respectivly.

With temps like that should I not worry about damage to it?

eh, i'm just gonna slap it on there and see how it does, or lack thereof.

I've been looking for an excuse to crack that puppy open and tinker with something.
