Motherboard for Antec Aria

Sat Nov 05, 2005 9:49 pm

The selection of mATX motherboards is finally improving! Trying to decide between the following to install in my Antec Aria case:

- Gigabyte GA-K8N51GMF-9
- MSI RS482M4-ILD
- ASUS A8N-VM

Any comments (positive or negative) on these boards, (or other board recommendations) would be appreciated.

Thanks

The second two both have DVI output on the motherboard. That's a huge plus in my book, assuming that you intend to use the on-board graphics.

MSI and ASUS are both large and successful motherboard manufacturers. Which of the two boards that you like best probably depends most on the chipset features. ATI Radeon XPress200 + SB450 or NVidia GeForce6150 + NForce430?

The ASUS + NVidia solution has the best features, so that would probably be my first choice.

about the MSI versus the ASUS mobo

I would recommend that you steer clear of any mobos with an ATI chipset that lacks a ULi southbridge. On this very site, the guys tested an ATI Rareon Xpress 200 with the SB450 southbridge and it was embarrased by the nForce chipsets. The RS482M4-ILD has that SB450 chipset, which is an underperformer. Steer clear of that board and pick up one of the others.

Another thread raised from the dead?

Look for ATI's new SB600 chipset if high-speed USB performance is that important to you.
