Can you please help me find a mATX board

Wed Apr 18, 2007 4:02 pm

I'm having difficulty finding one that suits.

Preferably AMD AM2 over core2, mainly because the CPUs are a bit cheaper.

The main thing I want is digital audio output, but not spdif connection. I need the little round connection instead (not sure what it is called, if someone can enlighten me it will make this whole researching thing a lot easier!)

I would like the x1250 integrated video, but if not possible then I'd shoot for the Geforce 6x00 series integrated.

HDMI output would be nice as well, and it doesn't necessarily have to have audio integrated into it. (I want to plug hdmi into the telly, but sound is going into dvd player for surround sound).

Any help is very much appreciated.

Cheers,
Owen.

I would check out the Asus M2A-VM HDMI. It's got everything you're looking for, x1250 graphics, hdmi, 2 pci slots and coaxial s/pdif output.

Is it an s-video connection you want? Those are a rare feature integrated into a motherboard, and are usually used for video connections rather than sound. Is it just a 1/8" (3.5mm) headphone plug you're after? Those are common, but I don't think they're digital. There's also the option of an AV connector (commonly the red, yellow, and white cable trio like one would use to plug a console into a TV). Again, rare, and usually for video only.

The Asus M2A-VM HDMI has an integrated DVI connection running off of an ATI Express 1250 chip, and features HD audio, so it's pretty close to what you wanted.

Alternately, Abit's NF-M2 has a comparable feature set, but its graphics are fed by a GeForce 6150 northbridge, and it features S/PDIF in/out as well as a DVI connection. Both motherboards have 4 SATA ports and 2 PCI slots.
Asus A8N32-SLI - AMD X2 4200+ @ 2.7GHz - 2 x 1GB Corsair PC-3500LL @ 266MHz, 3-3-3-6 - SLI 7800GTs @ 505/1206 - Corsair HX620 PSU - Cooler Master RC-690

The two great evils of system tuning: YMMV and IIRC.

Thankyou very much guys. Weirdly, the only two places I found the Asus M2A-VM HDMI have it filed under keyboards (i'm in Aus) perhaps it's too new for over here.

I'm after a HDMI output for my video, and a coaxial s/pdif output (thanks crazybus) for my audio.

Again, thanks very much for taking the time to help.

I can find a lot of Asus M2A-VM... but I'm guessing they don't have the HDMI connection.

The Asus board with HDMI seems rare down here.

The MSI K9AGM2-FIH seems to be more common but doesnt seem to have the audio out you want.

Hey again guys.

Given the recent price drops, I'm considering an intel CPU now. Are there any boards with decent integrated graphics for core2's?

Thanks,
Owen.

There ate 63 boards on Newegg that have onboard video and support core 2 duo.

You will have to tell us whether the G965 is good enough for you. And if you are thinking overclock, most G965 does not seem to overclock well though.
The Model M is not for the faint of heart. You either like them or hate them.

Thanks for pointing out that review mate, it looks to be not bad at all.

I think the 690G seems to have the upperhand on the graphics front. I will be playing games like nba live, moto gp, things like that so although old games, I can increase the quality of them with the 690G.

So I think I'll head back down the AMD track and look at that Asus board with a low voltage AMD CPU.
