XLR connector. You'd have to get a XLR to 3.5. Something like http://www.amazon.com/Hosa-XVM-115F-Mic ... B000068NZF

You'd might be better off with a different mic. What are you looking for?

Yes that will work, as will a normal XLR to 1/4 inch, or TRS jack. Just make sure what you are going into is expecting a balanced signal. That's up to your sound interface. If this is an on-board soundcard with just a universal mic/line-in it is quite possible it won't be able to apply enough gain to the signal to make it usable.

The cleanest way to get signal into a computer from a mic if you don't already have a nice sound interface is to get an XLR-USB converter. You're using a dynamic mic, so you can get pretty cheap ones that will be way better than any on-board audio input. Just be careful about mics that need phantom power.

am i doing something wrong here? i have it hanging over the speaker and connected to my mic in on my sound card but the mic doesn't pick up any signal!! i mean i have to have my amp turned up to extreme volumes (i play at home) just to see minimal signal being picked up.

It will. Your on-board sound card has no idea what to do with that microphones input.

Using that mic on a guitar cab you'll probably want to dial it in at about +34dB gain, roll off everything under 40Hz with a low cut filter, and place the mic flat against the cab, hanging down from its cable is fine. If you are very particular sometimes moving the mic to just off center of one of the drivers in the guitar cab can tighten up the sound a bit versus the middle of the amp. Try to keep it directly on axis to the cabs drivers for maximum quality.

As a side note let me know if you want any advice, I'm an experienced audio engineer, mostly live now, but I have a degree in recording engineering, and a bit of experience in it as well.

What type of guitar sound are you going for, and what genre of music?

Been a while since I did this stuff for money but some of it still sticks.

The mic 's XLR is pin-2 hot and the cable is similarly-wired (it's still an issue in the XLR world).
The sheer number of people on Amazon saying it works means a couple are correct.
The mic's published sensitivity number is low, but that's expected of a mic designed to drape over an amp cabinet.
The mic's response pattern is super-cardioid, meaning it does its level best to ignore signal from one side.
The mic has a "FRONT" marking.

Here's where I have to be delicate. The side of the mic with the "FRONT" marking is the side facing the amp cabinet, n'est-ce pas?

Old roadie here; when things go wrong 99% it's the simple stuff.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.
