No, not even close to that. Like I said before, I spent about the same as you did on your flips for my Audio Technicas. My speakers are 12 year old bookshelf speakers made by Energy that I think sound good for their size and have better lows and mids than others I tried. Overall, I think they are pretty musical, but not perfect. Total setup including receiver is still south of $1k though.

"Audiophile" is not at all the same thing as "someone looking for decent sound at non-ridiculous cost".
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Since I have hearing loss and live on a fixed income, I highly doubt that I will catch audiophilia nervosa as I can't tell the difference nor afford to spend that kind of money.

How do you know that you "can't tell the difference"? Get a pair of these: https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=9396 and tell us if you there is any difference. If you can't? Great! Carry on.
