Re: What's the last piece of tech you regret buying?

Ah, thanks derFunkenstein. I didn't really think about the Krait custom design.

On a side note, it's irritating to me that I have three phones with the same damn CPU. Talk about sidegrading! Going from a SIII to a LG Optimus G to a Moto X Gen1... I guess since there was no clear performance problems I didn't check the specifications that closely.

They make it hard, that's for sure. Lots of manufacturers list the chipset and tout stuff like "Octa-core!" or "Quad-core!" but figuring out what those cores are is still an exercise in memorizing chipsets or (like I did) looking it up elsewhere. The OG Moto X is a damn fine phone, though. Too bad it's stuck on Lollipop.
I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.

Latest regret is getting an X-Box 1, the kid is obsessed with electronics, and this is adding to the pile of crap we have to fight him with constantly. Zombie boy if we don't force him off electronics.

Really? I'm curious about that: my devices are decently fast,  and they're all based on the Snapdragon S4 Pro, which is the 32-bit older brother to the Zenphone Max's CPU (the Snapdragon 410).

Yea, you would think that the "Max" version is a more premium version. However it's actually a budget version. The CPU is weak, perhaps as a result of that the battery lasts pretty long.

The stack of 80mm Delta EHE's and 60mm black label fans I bought a long time ago. They are now collecting dust in a box in my collection...never to be used again.

I don't know if I regret it, but I bought the Zalman Reserator 3 MAX self-contained liquid cooler for my CPU. Might have been 2 years ago at this point, I'm afraid to look up the receipt. It's still sitting under my desk, unopened.

I came across some hardware and built a new computer. Finally opened it up. I bought it Black Friday 2013!!! I got it installed and it seems to be working fine. I'm going easy on the system, slowly ramping up workloads so I don't toast anything.

It's a tie between the Riva 128 and Rage 128 graphics cards, and that stupid Logitech Soundman Wave soundcard is a close second. Nothing says "fun" like having the MIDI chip hang on the last note of the Tie Fighter intro, and it would blast it all throughout the gameplay.

Could've been worse, though. My best friend in high school bought that Nvidia card that could play Sega Saturn games, and then "traded up" to a Sierra Screamin' 3D to play those Papyrus Nascar games.

I keep telling myself I should sell all my old PC equipment (8 PC's and quite a few video card generations) on E-bay. But Paypal; meh.

What was wrong with it? I considered getting one but reviews said it wasn't any better than a cheap Intel adapter. It has traffic-shaping software as well though, right?

The only value-add of Killer adapters is the QoS stuff...but that's only a necessity if you need QoS in your box versus at your router.

IMO it's easier to handle at the router to handle the entire network versus just letting you do stupid crap on your desktop without impacting latency.

Fiio M3 portable music player.
It's a great portable music player for the money (great sound quality) but it doesn't do gapless playback and that bugs me, particularly if the album I'm listening has tracks that fade out(or crossfade) into the next track since you get that tiny amount of silence that's disruptive, they claim it's a processing power issue, which I find odd since my iPod shuffle 4g could do gapless playback perfectly.
Also it doesn't handle ID tags as well as my Shuffle, I've had to fix several albums I ripped to use on my shuffle because the tags wouldn't read correctly on my Fiio.

Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3 motherboard. Works good. However the center most screw hole doesn't line up with available headers with a few computer chassis. I ended up shelving this motherboard and purchasing an ASUS ROG CROSSHAIR VI HERO because it seems to have standard hole's.
