$1244 or $1200 seems like quite a bit of money to spend on a monitor, either way.  They both use the same LG LM340WU2-SSA1 3440x1440 AH-IPS panel.
Here's a review of the Asus, in which it is compared directly to the very similar Acer monitor:

If it is strictly between the two then Asus Rouge would be my choice, otherwise BenQ XR3501 35-inch Curved would be fine for me in almost half the price!

That's a 1080p 21:9 screen, not a 1440p one.

I have the LG um95 3440-1440 ips flat 60hrtz now for 2 years and the picture is awesome....$750 at the time was an still is a decent price. I use a frame rate cap at 70fps with evga preci software....very happy with it but the choice is yours. GL
I think 21/9 is the best gaming format nowadays IMHO

I've seen both side by side and picture wise both are the same. Figure out which one has the features you'd like and get you one. That being said, I hope you have a fast GPU and CPU cause the demo on the ROG with a I7 6700K and a GTX 1080 brought them to their knees!
Windows10, EVGA G2 750w Power Supply, Acer XB270H G-synch monitor, MSI Krait Gaming 3X, I7 6700K, 16 gigs of CORSAIR Vengeance LPX DDR4 3200 MHz ram, Crucial 500 gig SSD, EVGA GTX1080 FTW

None of them to be honest. 34" is too large to have as a completely flat screen, the viewing angle issues at the extreme edges are enough to ruin the experience. Getting a curved one helps, but even then a lot of the curves are rubbish and effectively flat anyway.

The 1080p Z35 is long in the tooth and hideously overpriced whilst the replacement has been delayed.
The issue with 1440p ones is that even if you are okay with the colourshift/glow at the edges, the resolution is too demanding to run at decent refresh rates, you'd struggle to break 60fps in a lot of modern games at that resolution unless you are running a GTX1080 or Titan X(P).

Basically, ultrawide 1440p is almost as demanding as 4K and even if you decided you want one, of the ones on the market, most users are complaining of manufacturing issues. The LG, the Asus and the Acer models all seem to have some rather serious defects in terms of panel uniformity and backlighting. Given their exhorbitant cost compared to 60Hz 4K monitors, I'd be boycotting them until they do the job properly and for a sensible price.

Not the Acer. I haven't been following either of them since my problems but I'd advise waiting (I know, I know) because a lot of better stuff is coming next year. Specifically, panels that don't have to be overclocked to run at those speeds.

I've not tried the Acer X34" personally, but I can confirm that the IPS glow is pretty terrible on the two 34" LG models. I sent back my LG 34UM88 since it was nothing short of a disaster the minute the room lights were turned down, and I've seen reviews with photos of the (barely) curved version exhibiting exactly the same problems I had, but with all the backlight bleed and uniformity issues that seem to affect curved IPS.

The monitor I'm waiting for is the 31.5" Predator Z1:

Does not exist yet, despite being announced at the start of the year :(

Both of them are curved monitors. I didn't notice any shift or color change in them and no light bleed (bright showroom though). I was really taken with these monitors, the curve seems to draw you in whereas the flat 34 inch screens don't. I didn't really look at the 1080p ultra wide monitors but I did look at the ROG Swift 1440p IPS and the TN screens that were sitting side by side. I don't think the difference between these screens is very much at all. The colors were a bit better on the IPS and you really had to get off to the side of the TN to notice color loss. For gaming I would pick the TN as you just don't notice the color difference when you are doing an FPS. I would love to have the 34 inch ultra wide ROG for playing Elite Dangerous tough. However, my Tobii Eyes won't work with that screen size and my GTX 970 won't drive it hard enough.
