Starfalcon's Great Hardware Inventory

Sun Apr 09, 2017 9:52 pm

Just getting this prepared ahead of time, I may start listing random stuff before the great accounting. Depending on my free time, between now and my vacation :D I hope all you TR regulars enjoy this.

I had a little bit of time so I put some of the random processors I have laying around, but still plenty more to come, barely made a dent in it. :o

Put some random video cards up today, at least the ones I was sure what they were. Have plenty more not sure what they are...why did I not mark them.... :(
More fun looking up these old cards....

Well I will be trying to get more stuff up today, I have a depressing amount of stuff to slog through. I just keep finding more stuff I forgot I had, like the huge box of PCI and ISA modems I found at the bottom of a box. The other problem is what a lot of the parts are, have piles of old random trident cards, and old ISA cards that aren't really marked, so I am going to have to spend a large amount of time actually figuring out what they are :-? Wish me luck...

Well put up a chunk of the motherboards I have laying around, still have a bunch sitting around in cases to list...going to be fun...

I also did a small box of sound cards, and I have been helped a lot by google, been punching in part numbers to figure out the motherboards I have. makes doing this job a lot easier, and plus Ill finally have a full list of everything I have for the first time ever.

I put up a ton more stuff today, enjoy all my labor. I still have more loose items to put up, then I will get started posting the parts from the 35 or odd towers I have laying around....and then I may get started on the great memory accounting :o

More stuff up, still more stuff to go... :-?

Put up a ton of my CD Drives today plus more random stuff, enjoy....Plus I am happy, found a second Abit BP6 I forgot I had :D I still have to take a bunch of heatsinks off a lot of mobos, just to figure out what are in them though....dead bios batteries FTL... :-?

Added one of my boxes of memory and a bunch of other random stuff today, enjoy

Well I have reached the point that I really discovered how much computer stuff I really have...Even I wasn't aware how much stuff there was. I am finally getting near the home stretch, prob 80-85% done now, but still a lot left to go. This inventory has ended up taking much longer than I thought, and my place is a disaster with computer stuff all over. Although once this is done I wont have to do it again...

Starfalcon: Ever tried one of the many IDE/PATA to SD/Flash adapters in those old systems? I'd be curious to know if they have any obvious quirks/incompatibilities (aside from BIOS capacity limits on the really old rigs). Avoiding mechanical drives of that age would probably make things much easier.

You need to add a 3Dfx Voodoo 5 6000 AGP 128mb to this list !!

There's a 64mb functional one on flEbay right now for $269 BIN

Edit: So many memories reading the list, from the sound cards where I first learned how to resolve IRQ/DMA conflicts and running QEMM to free up enough conventional memory to run those beastly Origin games, to the 3dfx cards that had me playing Quake for 9 months straight without missing a single evening online, to the legendary Abit BH6 paired with a pin B21 taped Celeron 300A that was always a treat to set up.

And here I was proud that I have an Athlon XP 1700+ DLT3C with a multiplier mod sitting on my desk. :P

No Cyrix CPUs? I am disappoint. :P

Seriously, though, are you interested in any Socket 754 stuff yet?, that's verging on antique now too. I have a K8T-Neo and Athlon 64 2800+. I believe said system has a 9700 Pro in it which your collection is missing too. If you're interested, I'll send it and even pay the shipping, I just don't want to chuck it.

That Voodoo 5 5500 PCI is rare and sought by retro-gamers. The majority of Voodoo 5 5500 out there were made in AGP 1x flavor.

Captaintrav yeah I never say no to old hardware, that's what got me to this point :D Send me a PM .

And yes I do have a cyrix cpu, just havent got everything up yet.

And still have to do my CRT collection.....

I also haven't tried out the flash adapters, as I have a metric ton of old drives here that still work fine. I have heard they work pretty well esp in old hardware though

You need to add a 3Dfx Voodoo 5 6000 AGP 128mb to this list !!

There's a 64mb functional one on flEbay right now for $269 BIN

I see only an AGP 5500 for $269.95 BIN which is more than what PCI models go for, and Starfalcon already has both. 6000s go for a lot more.

Those prices on eBay for 3DFx are insane, as I still occasionally run across a 5500 for $5 at the local recycling places, yet on eBay just the 5500s in my junk box go for over $1000. I suppose the PCI ones could be used in up to Sandy/Ivy on 60-series chipset in XP (last Intel chipset to support XP), but 9x support only goes up to i865/875 which is hardly better than the SiS 651/962L which supports 3.3v AGP (at least in the ASUS P4S533 plain and -e/-vl variants). It does support 800FSB vs. the SiS's 533 but the 3.06 HT should play any 9x game (the HT is supported in the last beta BIOS but obviously no use in 9x).

Of all that inventory, only the Pentium 4s can be used on the modern web because SSE2 is now required for both Firefox, Chrome and Flash (and Office 2013). The P4T533-C can hold a reasonable amount of Rambus and the AGP HD4650s can even hardware accelerate Flash (and have a driver for Windows 10 although only later Prescott has the XD-bit required to run 32-bit 10), although any of those R300 variants can also run Aero for Windows 7.

If you manage to scrounge up a Core 2 for that X48-DQ6 or something for that AM2 board they would be modern-ish systems able to run 64-bit Windows 10!

I do have several core 2 cpus, just haven't listed my way through everything yet. Yeah a voodoo 6000 is way out of my price range, now way I got the cash to add that to my collection.... :(

Surprised you still have that 366mhz Celeron I sold you all those years ago. Seeing this makes me want to dig out my old ware and get it moved, most of it is from the Socket A era with a couple of A64 bits. Doubt it's really worth much though.

Now I'm getting all nostalgic. The first desktop computer I ever had that was my own from the start, not a hand-me-down, was an inexpensive Compaq Socket 7. It started out with an AMD K62-400, 64 MB of RAM and an integrated ATI Rage Something-Or-Other with 4 MB of memory, and ended up with a K62+-550, 192 MB of RAM and a Voodoo 3 2000 PCI with 16 MB of memory, and that box just flew.

I know I parted it out over the years to friends who could use the upgrade but not afford it, but the processor has sadly vanished with the mists of time. Should have kept that as a Christmas ornament, at least.
