Hey guys,
Recently I have been getting the upgrade bug to get a new monitor.
Currently I have the Asus Rog PG278Q. Its a 27 inch TN monitor with 144hz that supports G-Sync.
I have been wanting to upgrade since they released the 165Hz monitors with an IPS panel as I really do find the TN annoying at times.
But I also don't wanna pull the trigger if there is something new on the horizon. I can see that a few good HDR monitors will probably be released next year. What I wanna know is has there been a monitor announced that will suit my needs. I am mainly hoping for a 1440p monitor with IPS panel and Gsync with high refresh rates and HDR. Has anything been announced that might fit the description? I would rather stick to a standard aspect ratio rather than ultra wides, but I would love to hear about any upcoming monitors that fit my requirements or even are generally interesting. I am hoping having something fixed to aim towards will help curb my upgrade instinct.

the most talked about 1440p HDR gsync panel is probably the 35" widescreen MVA in the announced Acer, Asus and AOC upcoming monitors. It's said to be a 200Hz panel, the most affordable version probably surfacing in the AG353UGC. But who knows when that will be available. It's at least 6+ months out by the looks of things.

Imagine the next 2018 Jan CES where LG demos a Freesync 120Hz 4K 55" OLED at <$2000 MSRP and suddenly every "high-end" monitor vendor is made to look like a completely greedy jerk.

Because I can totally see that happening.

If LG's OLED monitors are of the same quality as their OLED for the Pixel 2 XL, no thanks.

Good thing their OLED panels in their own brand, Sony, Panny and Philips are getting rave reviews everywhere and have already taken the high-end TV market like a storm.

I'm curious to see how those displays from LG behave a few years from now. The white OLEDs that LG is using seem like they're just a patch on top of a technology which still isn't quite ready yet.

As for them appearing on mobile, my understanding is that the white OLEDs work by stacking sub-pixels which runs counter to the thin-before-everything design practice used on phones, so it's probably not going to happen any time soon.

Is OLED good for gaming monitors ?
I mean in regards to high variable refresh rates and pixel response time.

I'm wondering this myself. This is very important; and they need to get HDR right on monitors, which means getting that max brightness up!

OLEDs only need to hit 540 nits to hit the HDR spec thanks to their far stronger contrast ratios than LCDs. The current gen OLED TVs can hit at least 700 nit peaks.
Input lag is ~22ms, comparable to mainstream LCD monitors.
Response time is 0.1 ms, far faster than the fastest available TN panel. But there will still be a bit of motion blur present regardless of response time or tech without using of a strobing light source.
No VRR yet, which is why TV gamers are watching the next year's model closely. But non VRR 120Hz 1080p is already supported.

LCD panel makers are only lucky that LG is both supply constrained at the moment and focusing on large panel TVs.

I have one of these as well, and have yet to encounter anything that would be a useful upgrade.

Sill waiting for the 4K,HDR monitors shown at this (2017) years CES.
Last I read, they were pushed from a this year release to a next year release.

The 4K need is so that I can NOT see the pixels on the monitor.
That is on my 28" monitor. A lot of the new ones seem to come in at 31.5" or so.
And I am quite concerned that I might be able to see the pixels such a large screen.
That would make the monitor completely unacceptable.
Guess I'll have to find one in a store to look at.

If you're fishing for upcoming announcements, you'll probably have to wait until after the holidays when CES is in full swing. Lots of stuff gets will be shown there for release later in 2018.

I guess it all depends on how long you're willing to wait.
