New NUC with EMIB Core-Radeon combo

Fri Nov 10, 2017 5:20 am

Looks like the unholy combination of a powerful Intel CPU and a beefy Radeon with HBM could be headed to a NUC sized machine some time soon:

Might be kind of hard to cool that in a NUC form factor. I suppose you could use the enclosure itself as the heat sink with some sort of heat pipe arrangement?
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.

Mostly depends on the wattage the CPU-GPU combo is putting out, according to some further leaks:

there are going to multiple SKUs with 46W, 66W, and 96W TDP

A "NUC" form factor with one of these parts will certainly not be passively cooled like some of the smaller NUCs out there, but it's not like cooling 50 - 100 watts in a small package is completely out of the question. One advantage of the way these chips are packaged is that it's pretty easy to get the mounting plate of the cooler to cover both the CPU and GPU with a single unit.
