AMD Marketing Fails Again

Thu Nov 23, 2017 4:14 pm

Just got this email ad from AMD about AMD Black Friday deals.

The main hook of the ad was the slogan "It's OK, But it's not Ryzen" [Comparing any other holiday gift with something containing Ryzen in it..]

Then every single one of the 11 computer products advertised from retailers in the "Computers" list directly beneath contained Bristol Ridge. Nope. It sure isn't Ryzen. Sigh...

First time I hear of "7th gen" AMD chips (9xxx).
They're copying Intel too much.

Sorry AMD but no way Hell will I buy a Bristol Ridge system as that would be a silly thing to do.

Most of the listed systems are laptops. I'll bet OEMs and retailers are using Black Friday to clear the decks of the older Bristol Ridge stuff. Yeah, this marketing campaign borders on false advertising.

There are probably some good deals out there though (AMD marketing fail notwithstanding).

Well maybe a cheap laptop, maybe?

Yeah, that's kind of my point. Best bang for the buck is rarely (if ever) the new shiny thing.

My personal laptop is an EliteBook 8460p, which is bordering on prehistoric by some people's standards. Didn't even buy it new (it was a refurb). I refuse to pay stupid amounts of money to have something that is just incrementally better.
