Help with a Brother Printer (MFC-9340CDW)

Hi guys,

I have a Brother Printer (MFC-9340CDW) that just got through a botched up firmware update and now it won't boot up. However, there is a chance that it may still work, as my printer is in the same conditions as the one described in this article: http://pschla.blogspot.com/2013/08/resu ... after.html.

My question is, is there anyone in this forum with that printer that can help me? I essentially need the result of the following SNMP command on it, since it's a wireless/wired network printer:
$ snmpwalk -c public <IP-ADDRESS> iso.3.6.1.4.1.2435.2.4.3.99.3.1.6.1.2

This command will detail the current firmware running on the printer, which will allow me to download it from Brother's services (it's a bit convoluted, as the article details),

Any help would be really appreciated!

We have a Brother b&w laser, but not the multi-functiin model you're looking to find. Have you tried a Google search for this info, or even a YouTube tutorial? Seems probable that somebody has already posted this info on either a forum or a video guide.

I believe I have that printer.

duplex scan, duplex print, color, etc.

With other brother and hp printers I've been able to push a firmware onto a borked printer over the usb cable.
Have you tried that?

I generally don't update firmware on a printer that is working just in case this happens...

I have a 9130CDW that's basically the low-end version of that printer. It's not the exact result, but maybe it can help, and it wouldn't surprise me if it actually used the same firmware across that model line.

That's what I'm trying to do, but unfortunately, the tricky bit is to get the firmware file - I already have all the utilities to push it to the printer, but I can't find the firmware file itself, as the firmware is divided into many pieces or binaries. It would help me if you could send me that snmp information (sans the serial number of course :) ) And I've learnt my lesson about firmware updates... the update app recommended it to me and I went on with it... but should've known better hah!

@SuperSpy, thanks for the output! I'll definitively will give this a try and see what happens!

So I tried the SNMP information from the 9130CDW and I got back the same firmware binary, so I'm going to assume that they both use the same base firmware. Now I have to figure out how to upload it to the printer since it only boots up into maintenance mode. Thanks for the help guys!

Have you tried emailing Brother's support? They're pretty good about supporting randos in my experience, and they might even have a knowledge base article they can point you at.

Actually, I just have finished talking with them today... and surprisingly they are sending me a whole new printer! Talk about great service!

However, that means that I still have the other bricked printer to fix... haven't had luck with the firmware yet, so I'll keep trying a bit longer - however, I no longer have printing problems heh! Thank you very much guys!

That's really impressive customer service. I have a Brother printer already, but I'm going to remember this for future recommendations.
