Hi,

I'm looking for a 2k/4k monitor to buy and I'm not sure which would be best.
It will be used for web development most of the time and just some casual gaming like league of legends.
This ones fit in my budget,, which one would you guys recommend?

Dell 28 Ultra HD 4K Monitor - S2817Q

LG Gaming 27UD59P-B 27 inch 4K 5ms Black FreeSync

BenQ GW2765HT 27 inch 4ms GTG black

ASUS PB277Q Gaming Monitor - 27" 2K WQHD

There may be other factors that make or break these that aren't obvious, but going by the basic specs of these four I'd take the BenQ. If you're doing any graphical work it's worth avoiding TN panels, which disqualifies the Dell and Asus. 4K at 27" isn't automatically bad, but unscaled things will be pretty tiny on it. 1440p is a more natural fit for 27" given the current state of scaling.

Do you plan on using the OS display scaling? If not, I’d second the recommend for a 1440p display.

All of this. Quoting for the truth right here. And for that reason I'd go with the BenQ out of the four you listed.

On October 23 I posted this Acer CB271HU for $220 It's your standard run-of-the-mill 27" 60Hz 2k IPS with an adjustable height stand.

I'd recommend keeping a close eye on pricing this month. Especially as we get into the week of 11/19-11/23

Also, what GPU are you using? AMD? NVidia?

Buy my used MG279Q.

That monitor I linked is $220 today only. (11/8)

I still don't understand why 1920x1080 is not 2K and 2560x1440 is not 2.5K.

And I don't get why 4K isn't 4096x2304. Some mysteries are never to be revealed.

4k is 4x the pixels of 1920x1080. Not sure where they get 2k from though.

Then they should call it 4x not 4K

If I needed a new 27" display, DPete27's link for that Acer looks mighty tempting.

"4k" is a DCI spec that has been blasphemously used to reflect 4x 1080p (3840x2160) which is officially called UHD. 4k is 4096x2160. Period. It drove me nutty when the industry started to use it to mean UHD, but seeing as it now basically become commonplace, I just shake my head and keep my mouth shut (except on the forums )

I always thought it represented the horizontal width of the screen (roughly) at a given aspect ratio. IE: 5K cameras are around 5000 pixels wide, 8K cameras are 8k pixels wide, etc.

I would strongly suggest looking at the Monoprice house brand monitors.

Since you seem to be looking around the $400 price point, you could get into their 32" units, which are the best size to start moving up to 4K. Totally agree with others who say 27" is too small, at least on Windows.

In your position, I would probably grab this 32-inch monitor, which hits all the major points: IPS, LED, 2x HDMI, 2x DisplayPort, 4K, HDR, and FreeSync. Monoprice also has a zero dead pixels policy, which I consider very important for my primary display.

I have an older model (no HDR), and it's top notch.

If you're working on web development I can highly recommend sticking as close to 96dpi as possible. That means, ideally

22"-23" 1080p
30-32" 1440p
42-46" TV at 4K (better to think of it as a bezel free 2x2 array of 1080p screens.

If you have to resort to OS-level scaling as a web developer you're going to be pulling your hair out a lot in Linux and uttering continuous, regular streams of profanity towards Redmond. If I have to mess about with logpixel registry values and EDID edits one more time I'm going to just downgrade to Windows 2000.

I don't do it anymore, but I found a lot of merit in the landscape + smaller portait setup.
