Please review control software (that comes with hardware)

Thu Feb 21, 2019 8:56 pm

Can the Tech Report team please review the software that comes with hardware? I'm finding the control software that comes with aio coolers for example is absolutely crap. For example, I just received an EVGA CLC 240 and the "custom fan curve" locks the fans to 100% at 60c. My overclocked 9600k is over 60c all the time but I don't need the fans at 100%... The LED lighting controls are also buggy and there's a "coolant temp" fan curve (which is completely useless). Don't know if there are any reasons to not review the software but I rarely see in depth analysis of associated control software and it would really sway my decision making process. Thanks :)

Notes on that in particular would be nice. Asus likes 75C and ASRock likes 80C IIRC, and they're all just too low. Some cooling configs have no business ever going close to 100%.

I should introduce you to the reference cooler on my Vega64. The default profile limits the fan to a maximum of 50%. I get better sustained clock rates at 55%. 70% and higher are loud.

The Radeon VII max fan speed is 2900 RPM by default. They go to 3900 RPM. They are not quiet. :P
