Monitor Selection

Thu Jun 06, 2019 8:48 am

Hi all,

My monitor knowledge is lacking in order to pull the trigger. Hope you all can help.

Intended use:
1) Gaming (primarily the MMO ESO)

2) Citrix VPN to office dual monitor workstation with 1920 resolution width (cannot determine height for sure as I am remote at the moment; 90% sure it's 1200). I would like to view both virtual display monitors. If I cannot, could I run a third cheap monitor (or use the laptop monitor itself for 2nd screen).

3) (low priority) Ability to PIP my backup desktop home PC.

I believe a 3440x1440 34" G-Sync monitor would be ideal.

Does my Laptop have the power to drive 3440x1440?
What would be your top choices for the application?
Budget would be determined by the capability. It seems most monitors in this arena range from $700 to $1,000. That is fine.

Laptop Hardware:
i7-8850H 2.6GHz
32 GB Ram
GeForce GTX 1070 SLI

Thank you

Expensive proprietary G-Sync is finally dead. In late January, after more than five years of gouging consumers with high G-Sync prices, NVidia finally quit blocking VESA standard adaptive sync (aka AMD's FreeSync) for GeForce GTX 10?0 and RTX 20?0 graphics cards. You should be able to purchase an affordable FreeSync monitor to connect to the DisplayPort output from your NVidia GeForce graphics card for variable refresh rate gaming.

When I use Remote Desktop to connect to my office desktop, I get a session that matches the resolution of the remote client, not the monitor connected to the desktop.

A single GeForce GTX1070 desktop graphics card is a okay for 2560x1440 at 60 Hz. It looks as if your pair of laptop GeForce GTX1070s should be able to handle 3840x2160 at 60 Hz. ... &directx=1
