Ghosts in the machine? Inexplicable static

Mon Aug 16, 2021 12:47 pm

I can't imagine what explains this bit of weirdness...

While sitting in the other room I suddenly heard static coming from my bedroom. Investigating I found my old Logitech z506 speakers were the culprit. I turned them off and the static stopped. No mystery...except the computer they're connected to was asleep at the time and had been for hours.

I rarely turn off the Logitechs bc the switch is a little finicky. I use them when I play guitar along with music. The guitar signal is routed to them (through the sound card running Realtek software). Audioengine HD3s + S8 sub are my main speakers, connected via USB to the same computer.

So the computer is asleep but static comes out of the speakers. How can speakers produce sound when the computer is asleep?

Any thoughts? Thanks...

edit: 4 or 5 hours now...I was wondering if anyone would take a stab at this one...lol...I got nothing. But it wasn't my imagination.

edit: 6 days, 75 looks and no replies. I wouldn't know what to say either. I guess I'll forget about it. Thanks for looking!
