Battery Reset

Wed Jan 19, 2005 3:38 pm

Howdy

I am doing a complete sorting of my grandmothers laptop and came acress a "Battery Reset" file on the companies website... its a WinBook XL2...

http://www.winbookcorp.com/_technote/WBTA00120779.htm

I found this by accident but am interested since the life of the battery is, well, 10mins at best!

Could anyone tell me such a "Battery Reset" would solve this... I have never heard of such a thing...

Cheers!

It sounds like all it does is wipe the existing battery life calibration info. Your Grandma's notebook thinks the battery is dead after 10 minutes when there is likely many more joules of power in the battery only because the calibration info says it's dead. Follow those instructions and you should see an increase in calculated battery life.

FWIW, the Gateway laptops I use at work have the same thing built into the BIOS. I run it every 6 months or so just to keep the battery and the OS talking to each other.
What we have today is way too much pluribus and not enough unum.
