Parhelia Banding issue needs resolved..& soon!

Sat Jan 11, 2003 9:19 pm

The more I read about the nasty banding problems people are having with the Parhelia boards the more disgusted I am. Matrox needs to fix this & they need to fix it FAST.

If it IS true that the only fix is a revised chip then Matrox needs to offer some sort of meaningful rebate/refund offer to owners of currently defective cards. The only fair and ethical thing to do with the existing "mountain" of bad cards they are rumored to be sitting on is to sell them at a much reduced price since they have a KNOWN problem with 3d and no possible fix (if it cannot be fixed with drivers of course). Then they will need to sell the revised version with some kind of name/model difference to indicate it's "the good one".

For more info on the "banding problem" see here:

Well, it looks like Matrox is having more problems with their cards. This one looks like it will lose them a lot of customers if it is not resolved quickly. Hopefully there will be a fix, so all the people that bought these cards will not have to go out and buy a new card to replace the old one.

It's a hardware problem, and Matrox is content to hush it up, as Parhelia's 3D performance isn't enough to attract CAD/CAM folks in the first place, and that's the primary niche for high image quality 3D-in-a-window apps.
