Mainboard Recommendations

Tue Mar 13, 2007 10:46 am

Have a Core 2 e6400, 4 GB DDR2 RAM and two PCI-E 16 Radeon 1600 Cards with Dual DVI. Need the ability to drive 4 monitors for my Visual Studio 2005.

Don't need SLI, just the ability to drive two PCI-E 16 cards.

Thx in advance...

That only does x16/x1 though. It should still work.

I would (reluctantly) suggest looking at Nvidia 650i boards, they can do x8/x8. Or you may need to look at 975X boards that can also do x8/x8.

Granted, the 1600 should function in x1 mode and since you are not gaming you should be ok.

ASUS P5B Deluxe looks good to me. I believe that the PCIe slots for the P965 chipset function at 16x & 4x.

Hmm... you may be right. In CrossFire mode it is x16/x1 I think, but if functioning as a separate slot it can be configured to grab all the remaining lanes to make it x4.

16x/4x in CF mode too. Infact its hardwired to 16x/4x. There's no option anywhere to change it. The P5B Deluxe will run dual x1600 without a hitch... with or without crossfire.
