DVI to VGA help needed

Wed Apr 04, 2007 7:27 pm

Ok, here's the deal, i've got a 22" Mitsubishi Diamond Pro 2070SB and i'm currently using a 15 pin D-sub VGA cable to connect it to my computer. However, i'm about to order parts for my new system (see signature) in the next few days and from the looks of things the video card supports DVI only so i've been told that i will need an adaptor in order to use my monitor. I'm not sure what kind of adaptor i need male to female or female to male, what is the difference between them? Furthermore, conversion boxes are also available, is it something i should be considering instead? Anyone know?

Yes, That card should come with an (probably only one) adapter for DVI-VGA.
You should be cool.

I see, even if it comes with only 1 that should be good enough, thanks for your help guys.

And even if it doesn't come with an adapter, you can always go grab one for cheap, like this (even B&M stores have those).
The Model M is not for the faint of heart. You either like them or hate them.

As others have said, it should come with one. If it doesn't, then shoot me a PM or e-mail and I'll be glad to send you one of the handful I have (and don't use since I'm all digital).

The only thing you may run into at some point is that there are two common implementations of DVI, DVI-I and DVI-D. DVI-D is digital only and does not include the extra quad+1 connector on the end for analog signals (see Wikipedia on DVI). An adapter will not help if you encounter one of these, and a conversion box will be needed.

This will not affect most consumer video card outputs, the DVI-I interface is used and the conversion adapters will be provided.
