Installed Intel quad core CPU heat-sink on 8800GT video card along with some old mobo's chipset heat-sink which were used as memory heat sink. Previously, 8800GT would ideal at 62C and load temperature were 99C at 100% fan speed (would some time even crash, needless to say gaming was very noisy due to reference fan noise at 100% speed) and now ideal temperature are 32C and load is 58C with external 90MM fan at 100% speed. Personally, I am very happy with the result, as i have now further volt modded the card and currently 8800GT is at GPU 750MHZ, SP: 1950MHZ and Memory 2200MHZ.
Advantages of doing the mods:
Card is very very silent.
Enjoying further performance with extra overclocking headroom.
Due to Intel's heatsink i have 3 PCi slots unusable.
Card looks very ugly because of chipset heat-sink that i use as a memory heat-sink, are of different colors.
Money spend on this project: $5 for 90MM fan (Intel's fan was not fitting in, rather it was hurdle as it was touching the pci slots.)
I did some research and found out that, i am getting almost Thermalright HR-03 type performance at no cost.
Here are the pics.Had to use 3.5 inch 20MM screws which are passing from the heatsink.
I would like to know, if any one has done this kind of thing before ?
Any suggestion to further improve the card's cool would be welcome.
