s-ips monitor suggestions

I have a dell 2001FP with an s-ips panel that produces really good color and contrast. It runs games well - at least equal to my older benq 24 TN (touted for gaming and bought for gaming but never wa really satisfying - surely OK). Now I have a couple year old Dell 2408 that sits next to it now - and the colors and contrast look pretty pathetic by comparison.

Any thoughts on a 24" - 27" s-ips that might serve for productivity and gaming?

If you can afford it:

Dell UltraSharp IPS-panel U2410 Black 24" 6ms HDMI Full 1200P Height, Pivot, Swivel, Tilt adjustable Widescreen LCD Monitor 400 cd/m2 80,000:1(1000:1) w/Display Port

Or the cheaper, more on-a-budget one:
Dell UltraSharp U2412M Black IPS Panel 24" 8ms Pivot, Swivel & Height Adjustable LED Backlight Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 2,000,000:1 (1000:1)

Dell U2410 or U2711 if you need it larger. I believe these are true 8-bit IPS models, unlike the lower-priced Dell models. They're somewhat expensive, but if you can wait - you might get on one of the "sales" that Dell makes from time to time, or special promotions; you can search for past promotions on http://www.slickdeals.net forums (none are currently active).

Did you ever try to adjust color/saturation/brightness/contrast on the 2408WFP? It has a very good reputation for color.

Are you running it in sRGB emulation mode?

Yeah, try calibrating both the monitors with a colorimeter before you get rid of one.

Do try calibrating as others have suggested.

The UltraSharp U2410 is an excellent monitor. It or the 2408 should work satisfactorily with your 2001FP in landscape+landscape mode (3520x1200 desktop).

My 2001FP is in portrait mode beside an UltraSharp 3007WFP (3760x1600 desktop).
