When my desktop isn't in use I started shutting the power bar off because of this. Phantom power! Spooky!

I realize that you're not asking for advice, but If you're not afraid to tinker, you might want to check out techpowerup's Radeon Bios Editor for that 4850, as that model is known to ship with braindead power management values in its BIOS by default.

For reference, my old 4850 could be relibably clocked down to 250MHz 2D clocks @~1V and 500 MHz on the RAM. This cut ~15W from my idle power usage right there IIRC. YMMV of course.

On the system in my sig, I switch between the 'balanced' and the 'performance' power profile in windows as necessary, but I'm using PhenomMSRTweaker to program my P-States such that P0 (OC) is only available in the 'performance' profile, while the rest of the time the CPU runs at P1-P4, which I have more or less given the same values that the CPU would have stock with C'n'Q enabled. Works like a charm. I don't know if a similar tool exists for your Q6600, though.

AMD E-350, 120GB OCZ Agility SSD, no optical, including Dell 23" LCD is only 21-22W at idle. Not sure what standby / sleep would be. The highest I've seen it at was still under 40W.
ASRock H77M-ITX - Intel E3-1245v2 - 8Gb DDR3 - MSI GTX 1060 3GB - Dell 24" IPS - OCZ Vertex 3 128GB SSD - Silverstone ITX case - Razer Lycosa keyboard - Corsair RGB 65 Pro mouse- Win 10 x64

ermo, thanks for the tips. Maybe I'll try them out sometime, and also try to play with the CPU voltage (stock right now) to see what difference it makes. The Q6600 already scales down to ~2GHz when idle. But my computer is rather old, it's been though a lot, and I'm not much in the mood for tinkering with it anymore.

Not sure about power consumption, but my computer puts out enough heat to keep a small room warm in the middle of an Idaho winter. And when people ask what my carbon footprint is, I just tell them, "It's high enough to get me the death penalty in Montana". I always get mixed reactions. :D

I cut a LOT from my old rig by setting my 4870X2s to drop to 200/400 at idle instead of the idiotic 500/900 they usually sat at. I don't recall exactly what it was but I remember being quite proud when I did it.

Idle == "CPU load within epsilon of 0%". Not "I am not sitting in front of it doing something".

My UPS says I'm pulling 105 watts at idle with the monitor off. I've also got the cable modem and router connected though, and probably another DC adapter or two. So without being at home to do more testing, an educated guess would be somewhere in the 65-85 watt range.

Running a 2500k, GTX460 1GB, Xonar soundcard, 2HDD, Seasonic 620W

According to the UPS (which I don't trust to be as accurate as a Kill-A-Watt, but at least it should be a ballpark figure) my work desktop is pulling 118W at idle with the monitors off. AMD Phenom II X4 980 with 5 hard drives, onboard Radeon graphics, Cool 'n' Quiet enabled, running Ubuntu Linux 10.04 as the OS. If I turn off CnQ the idle power draw rises to 151W.

118W? That sounds a bit high for that config. My Athlon II 240e w/4x1GB ECC DDR2 RAM, 3 disks and 790GX IGP idles at 65W w/C'n'Q and C1E enabled. It has an Antec EarthWatts 380W 80+ bronze PSU.

Unless you have a crazy PSU/mobo combo, shouldn't you be hitting closer to 80-90W @idle?

^^ Five (5) HDDs all spinning can really hurt the idle usage. My second drive is a low-rpm "Green" which often goes to sleep. If four of his drives spun down, he'd probably see a decent drop. Overclocking will really hurt idle usage as well.

I don't think the PSU is 80+ certified, and IIRC all of the hard drives are 7200 RPM. No idea how accurate the UPS's power meter is either...

What if you'll use some kind of "HDD sleep" method (not sure how it's called in Linux), with HDD's being turned off when idling? I wonder how different the power usage would be then...

Sorry for the necro 5.5 years later, but this is what my heavily undervolted PC in my sig does at the wall plug without monitor and speakers after testing:

Idle: 42W
Cinebench R15 MT: 122W
Skyrim 60 fps capped: 72W
Witcher 3 Gsync in Oxenfurt: 165W

Even with the monitor etc powered up, I can still manage to play Witcher 3 drawing <210W at the wall when ignoring transient peaks...Awesome!

Made that comment when saw location as upper Canada.
Thought you were somewhere cold.
Remember when traveling thru Egypt on a stinking 38C day commenting how wonderful Perth Aus is in spring and autumn-around 25C.

Be nice if you posted some voltages.
Could possibly help others-there's one thread in particular-bit of undervolting might help-

8700K - 4.3GHz @ 1.05V
DDR4 - 3200 C16 @ 1.25V
GTX 1070 - 1645 core / 9000 mem @ 0.8V

I'm still in the process of optimizing undervolts for my second PC (4790K + GTX 970), but I know just dropping the CPU from 4.2GHz @ 1.09V all core turbo to 4GHz @ 1V the temps fell from 70C to 62C and system load power running CB R15 dropped from 150W to 130W. I rather run it in at a much cooler and quieter 4GHz than 4.2GHz for that imperceptible +4% CPU score.

The computer I built early 2017... includes 2x 24" monitors ~ 120W alone.

Regular work, processor at .8-1GHz - 160W
Processor turbo to 3.9GHz - 180-190W
Gaming (Battletech) - 250W, maybe up to 300W

In the first two instances the fans on the power supply and video card pretty much stay spun down all the time...
Gigabyte Ultra Gaming Z270 - i5 7600 - CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB - EVGA SuperNOVA 550 G2 - GIGABYTE Windforce GTX 1060 6GB - Crucial BX100 500G

hmmm never tested this PC, but my old one, amd 955 3.2ghz with a radeon hd6850 was around 94W idle desktop, HOWEVER that was from the power bar and included the speakers and monitor and maybe the printer, can't remember. Also, all sleep states and CnQ was disabled in the bios AND windows 7 was set to Hi-Perf Mode in control panel.
