Thought I'd just blew up my PC...

Wed Jan 29, 2014 11:35 pm

So I' m packing to move and came across some favorite CD's I've been looking for so I popped them into my player and started ripping them. About a dozen or so later I put in one and a heard loud popping sound, looked down to see smoke coming out of the front of my computer! Crap! In a panic I pulled the plug out from the wall. I sat there wondering how I was gonna get the money to replace what had blown... Then I realized what happened. One paper clip confirmed it... The CD I just put must not have been seated and when the player spun up the CD exploded. I can't get all the pieces out of the unit so I guess I'll have to get a new on. The dang thing ain't that old! Oh well.

DVD rom opens pretty easy, you can search videos to guide you how to do it.

Reminds me of those videos where a person attached a CD to a drill bit, activated the drill and watched the CD explode. I can't seem to find a link at the moment.

Yeah, even if it's jammed it's just ~four phillips screws to pop the cover off generally. If the smoke was just from the CD itself exploding then my bet is the thing will still work too, just would need a good blowing out

DVD Rewritable drives only cost about $20. Just buy a new one. I wouldn't trust your current drive.
