Question about DSR

Wed Mar 23, 2016 4:46 pm

So I just started using this technology (I know pretty late to the party lol) and I have a couple of questions.

First off will this cause any type of issues such as artifacts or any weird things like that? I haven't played with it much but so far it seems great.

Secondly, what about games that I still want to run in 1080p? Will DSR change those games to 1440p? I know this is probably a silly question but there are still some games that I want to continue to run at 1080p and I don't want DSR messing with those games. I want DSR to leave those games alone.

I still run most of my games in 1080p but some of my older ones really benefit from 1440p on my native 1080p HDTV. Games like PSO2 that are older and easier to run have crappy FXAA so running it on 1440p on my 1080p has a huge impact on image quality. It looks awesome now so i def wanna keep playing it like that ^_^

1. The main problem I have faced with DSR relates to the interface of the game I happen to be playing. Since the game is rendered at a higher resolution and then scaled down, the interface elements tend to be much smaller than normal, and often they can be blurry. In one case in my testing (FFXIV), all of the interface elements were somehow misaligned so that I would need to click below the buttons. Keep in mind it can work well in some games but not in others.

2. DSR tricks games (and even Windows) into thinking the monitor supports higher resolutions than it really does. It will not change your resolution settings for anything in particular, but games might decide to run at the highest resolution available. You can usually just set the resolution back to 1080p and the game will then run at your native resolution.

No, it won't cause artifacts. Every time I have used it, it has worked fine. The only issues I have run into are UI scaling problems.

You control the resolution yourself, in game. You just allow the extra resolutions in the Nvidia control panel, and then switch to your desired resolution in-game.

Ah ok so basically as long as I set the actual games to 1080p the games will continue to run the same as when I had DSR turned off?
