Gigabyte Gtx 1080 Xtreme - cable block fan for few minutes

Fri Jul 15, 2016 3:11 am

Hello all. So i bought Gigabyte Gtx 1080 Xtreme. Overall actually i am happy with performance and 3dmark scores. But after plugging card ,during Unigine Heaven for 4 minutes one of the fan was not working. After 4 minutes i realize that cable sata from ssd was blocking the fan. Temp was 70C. Nothing happened? Actually all 3 fans are working like it should and max temps is 63C.

Nothing happened with card when temp was 70C ( without one fan working )? Thx

As long as you aren't getting visual artifacts, random BSODs and video card driver crashes. Your 1080 is perfectly fine.

No it was not harmful to the card. As a general rule, 80C is a warning point, 100C is critical. This is a general rule. That doesn't mean that 100C will damage a card, though extended periods at high temp can shorten the lifespan. Most chips to which I've been exposed have a thermal failure point in the 120-130C range. At this temperature, the chip stops working properly. Again, it doesn't mean that permanent damage will occur, though it is much more likely.

Geeky types seem to zero in on comparing temperatures and focus way too much on it. If a card gets into the mid 70s under heavy load in a warm room, thats not a problem.

So if one fan was blocked by cable for 4 minutes being in load nothing bad happened?
