G Sync Monitor Question

Tue Mar 07, 2017 9:37 pm

Hey guys,

I got a quick question regarding G Sync and monitors in general. (Not sure if this is the appropriate sub forum please move me if I'm in the wrong one)

I currently have a 27in 3ms 1920x1200 monitor. 60hz I belive. I have never been above 60 hz and have never utilized G Sync.

I came across a deal on Craigslist that looks really good. The individual is selling a asus rog swift pg278q
(https://www.amazon.com/SWIFT-PG278Q-27- ... B00MSOND8C)

After doing some reasearch I saw that this model is older and that there is an improved version out.
(https://www.amazon.com/PG279Q-2560x1440 ... B017EVR2VM)

I guess what I'm asking is, what is a good price for the pg278q? Is there better monitors that offer the same performance for much less than the advertised Amazon price?

I know it's a little old, does it still hold up in performance/value?

Thanks for any help!

Edit: My graphics card is a 1070 gtx

I know I paid less than either for my Acer XB271HU, which is functionally identical, but that was on sale.

Expect to pay in the range of US$650-US$800 for one of these new.

The asking price that is set on the Craigslist ad is $300

I spoke to him and he said he got a new 4k monitor and does not use it.

$300 is a good price for a PG278Q, but you should get the guy to demonstrate that the monitor is working in a few big games before you pay.

Monitor quirks are numerous enough that I'd be very leery of buying sight unseen.

That said, prepare to get blown away by 144Hz and GSync. :)

I just dropped 700 bucks on a ViewSonic XG2703-GS to get Gsync with high refresh rates. So yes, a good Gsync monitor is gonna drive up prices significantly over a non-Gsync version. Whether it's worth it or not is still out to jury as I haven't received it yet.

I just paid about $1k for Acer Predator X34
So I think your price is pretty good as for pg278q
